If you have been looking at selling Avon to make money from home, this is for you. Avon is great at recruiting and probably has you thrilled about the potential to earn all that money. It is true that Avon’s top sellers make a ton of money. But, you can’t assume this happens for everyone. Take a look at this before you go any further: Is Selling Avon Worth It? It will give you a realistic look at the financial aspect of selling Avon.
How to Sell Avon and Make Money
If you are looking at selling Avon to make a living, you need to have a business mind set. It is going to take real work and will NOT come quickly. Top selling Avon Representatives have put a lot of time and money to get where they are.
Cost to Start Selling Avon
There is a fee to sign up to sell Avon. If you sign up in person and meet with your new leader, the cost is $10. If you don’t want to do that, you can sign up online for $15. You get all of the same sign up stuff and information mailed to your house. This is one of the major factors that influence new Avon Reps. The start up cost is small enough to just try it, and if it doesn’t work out- you didn’t lose much money. When I first started, that is how I felt. I figured that I had to give it a shot.
If you want to sign up online, go ahead and do it now… We will wait…
Sell Avon like a Business
If you truly want to make money selling Avon, you are going to have to invest in yourself and your business. You may not want to spend that much money to get started, but this IS a business. You are going to have to get your name out there and let people know that you are the best Avon lady ever. You can’t just hand out brochures and cross your fingers. If you are not a people-person, Avon may not be for you.
Things you Need to Get Started
Don’t play into the hype that Avon pushes about samples. If you start buying products and samples when you are just starting out, you will go broke fast. I’m not saying to doubt your ability and think small. But, samples and products are not essentials when you are just starting out. Below is a list of things you will need to look professional when you are just starting out selling Avon.
- Brochures – When you first sign up, you are given 20 brochures; 10 for your first campaign and 10 for your next.
- Bags
- Business Cards
- Sign up Kits
How to Sell Avon and Make Money (Big Money)
The real money in selling Avon is buy selling a whole ton of stuff, or by having great Avon Representatives in your down-line. Avon pretty much invented multilevel marketing. If you recruit Avon Representatives and teach them how to sell Avon successfully, you can make a percentage of their sales. This doesn’t take any money away from the representatives below you. This commission comes from the portion Avon would have gotten. But, before you can be a great Avon leader, you have to be a great Avon Representative.
How to be a Successful Avon Representative
Use every opportunity you have to sell a product and get new customers. If a friend is talking about her horrible skin or flat hair, tell her about a product that Avon sells and what it can do for her. To accomplish this, you have to know the products. Spend some time reading the brochure and researching the products. You can sell what you don’t know and you cant expect to just hand out brochures and get orders.
Be Professional
Make sure you do everything on time. Deliver brochures early and make deliveries as promised. Make sure you let your customers know the status of orders if there are any complications. This is what makes for a good business person. You need to be professional and reliable.
Sell Avon Online
Make yourself visible online. Every great business has an online presence now. Create a Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+, etc. Share beauty tips and reference your Avon products. Post pictures of you with the products you use and when someone compliments you, tell them what product you are using. Use the personal webpage Avon gives you to sell your products online. You can even add a blog to it, which makes you easier to find in the search engines.
Avon Leadership Earnings Opportunities
Once you have started making decent money selling Avon, you can use this to recruit new Avon representative. You now know what it takes to be successful and can mentor new women on how to sell Avon and make money. No one is going to want to start selling Avon if YOU aren’t even making money doing it.
Start talking to friends and family about the Avon opportunity. Talk to women at social events or anyone who asks you what you do. This can get you more customers and possibly build your down line. Below is a chart showing you how much you can earn from being in Avon leadership.
Let me know if you have anything to add about how to sell Avon and make money.
I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your blog.
It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for
me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a developer to create
your theme? Great work!
I did not hire a developer. I do all the design and development. I did purchase the Modern Blogger Pro theme though.
I’m an Avon rep and it’s not a get rich quick scheme, but there is money to be made.
The most important thing I can tell you is to order at least 100 brochures with plastic literature bags, and also buy a stamper with your Avon information on it. This will cost you about $23 for the books and bags, and about $12 for the stamper that can be used again and again. Stamp those books and bag them, stuffing the end of the bag down the inside of the catalog for protection. Don’t include samples because those can get costly. Drop those 100 books in people’s driveways after dark. I say “after dark” because there is less traffic and it’s easier to get around. I throw them from my car window and I also take my teenager to help sometimes. If even 5-10% of the people respond with an order, then you will have 5-10 orders – and a new customer. If you can’t afford 100 books right away, then start with 20 or 30.
If you want to make money, then don’t buy a lot of samples and things for demonstration. I only have 3 or 4 packages of samples on hand to put inside ORDERS. And I usually get those samples free with promotions or from going to Avon meetings.
It will be tempting, but don’t buy a lot of things for yourself at first, unless you really need some make-up or something specific on sale. The “What’s New” catalogs for representatives will be filled with demos and enticing offers for you to “stock up”. Don’t buy those until you have a solid customer base, or you will end up with a lot of product sitting around in your house for a while. Avon is not an inventory business and it is not necessary to “stock up”.
You will need some basic supplies for your business that you can order within your first few campaigns. They are popcorn bags (used to deliver orders), a few samples to give to your paying customers, more brochures, clear literature bags, and free items like order books and credit card slips. That’s it. You can make it work from there.
Avon now offers a website for all reps when they sign up. It’s so easy. Post the link to all your social sites for your out of town friends and family.
Drop 3 or 4 books at your doctors office, nail shop, hair salon, mechanic’s waiting room, etc. Always ask first if you can leave books in their waiting room or they may throw them out after you leave. Put books in the break room at work if that’s allowed. Share with your kids teachers. Look for opportunities to leave books.
I set up a special email just for Avon. Check your email often and ANSWER your phone. So many people, in so many different industries, do not answer their phones – and it’s so annoying to customers. If you don’t answer, they MAY leave a message – or – they may just never call you back. People are busy, just like you, and they’re not going to chase you to give you an order. You need to be available. Of course, it’s acceptable to not answer your phone after about 8:00 or 9:00 pm.
To sign up to be a new rep is currently $15 for the basic package which will give you 20 brochures, 10 samples, 2 full size products and some business tools. From there you will need to invest in a pre-inked stamper (about $12 – much cheaper than labels and printer ink), more brochures, clear literature bags for throwing books, and bags for your orders. That’s it. After you get some customers, then you can buy a few more things for yourself, but don’t overdo it! You are in business to make money, right?
You don’t need a lot of demos. Avon is not a house party type of business and you won’t have a whole lot of opportunities to show them to people. You can wear make-up and jewelry from Avon, or course, but just keep it simple to start out.
Also, Avon is wonderful for taking returns. Let your customers know that it’s ok to order shoes or bras or clothes and try them on. This will help you get bigger orders. In my experience, maybe 1 out of 20 orders will ask for a return.
If you want to be an Avon Rep, with a very small investment, a good leader, and just a few basic tools, you can do it! Please contact me, I would be happy to be your leader and help you on your way. Don’t expect to get rich quick, but you CAN earn a good income with some diligence and time. The most important thing is getting your books out there.
Please contact me at JackieAvon3@gmail.com and we can talk! If you’d like to order, please visit my website at http://www.YourAvon.com/JackieB999
I hope I’ve helped you either way 🙂
What happens if people in your downline don’t pay their bill, or don’t pay on time? If the quota is not met for your leadership level during a campaign or more due to downline setbacks, how does that impact on the unit leader?
